“The next five years will be a very important transition technically for the [police] pursuit business and limo livery,” says Farley. “These days you really can’t afford to walk away from a loyal customer base who loves your product.” Ford is trying to save their business with  Police cars, a segment which measures about 65,000 annual units sold.

Their new solution most likely will be a front wheel drive unibody with all whell drive capability. This model is under review and most likely we`ll have to wait 1-2 years until we`ll see a final version of it.

Dual Clutch PowerShift in 2010

January 22nd, 2009 Ford Reporter No comments

getrag-dct

In 2010 we`ll see in  Ford Cars a new clutch – PowerShift which is similar with the DSG from Volkswagens. This clutch allows full automatic control or clutch-less  manual shifting. It is already available in the current Focus 2.0L diesel engine but it`s a wet clutch system. The one available in 2010 will be a dry-clutch system which is lighter and more efficient. The 6-speed PowerShift weighs with 30 lbs less than the 4-speed automatic currently offered in the U.S. Focus and should deliver up to  9-percent better fuel economy. We`ll keep an eye on future announces regarding this clutch which we find very good.

The next-gen Ford Focus might get a new engine. While the EcoBoost Series gets a 3.5L V6 Engine in 2009 the same technology may be used in a smaller package like a 1.6L turbocharged 4 Cylinders with direct injection. The engine will deliver up to 180 horsepower with enough torque to send you through the driver`s seat when you press the throttle. They say that this engine will give up to 43 mpg in the highway. The engine could debut with dual clutch gearbox and most likely will debut in 2010 offering 25% fuel efficiency over the standard 2.0L engine.

Camilo Pardo – the person who designed Ford GT is leaving the blue oval

January 20th, 2009 Ford Reporter No comments

FordGT

The designer of the Ford GT is leaving after 24 years being employed at Ford. Pardo confirmed the rumors about he leaving but didn`t said why. We think he left because in the last year instead of designing cars Ford asked him to design side mirrors.  It surely is a great loss for Ford and we hope the best for Camilo.
