Redesigned 2010 Ford Mustang
Enthusiastic hold your horses, Ford announced that they`ll launch a new an improved version of their legendary Ford Mustang in 2010. You know about wich car i`m talking about: that iconic American Muscle Car, the car wich stole the hearts of both younger women and men all over the globe. This new "power horse" will make it`s debut in Television in 19 Episodes of "Knight Rider" along with the Shelby GT500KR.
This new Mustang will carry on the 45-years heritage with a more-aggressive look, modern exterior design and a top-class interior. Offcourse there will be new technologies in this car, including available Ford SYNC, voice-activated navigation and a rearview camera system. Enhancements to the popular MyColor™ system include a wider range of color choices to customize the instrument gauge lighting.
Additional convenience features new for 2010 include the industry exclusive Easy Fuel™ capless fuel filler in order to keep the drivers not to go on a ride with additional fuel tank.
“We know that Mustang owners love spending as much time as possible in their cars, and we wanted to offer them the best technologies to stay connected in a safe way,” said Paul Randle, Ford Mustang chief engineer introducing this new features and technologies.
Chassis and powertrain will be improved as well through Ford`s experience in racing and thus this new pony car will deliver more power and a better handling than ever. This is all due to the lessons they learned through the Ford Mustang Challenge series. We have to test this in order to truly believe them so we`re waiting for an invitation to a drive test on this new Ford Mustang since we want to see if this is a true mustang or just another pony.
Powertrain, Horsepower, Performance
There will be a 4.6-liter V8 Engine wich gains horsepower through air-induction system pioneered on Ford`s extensive racing programs. Upgrades ar also made to shifter
and exhaust tips. This V8 will generate around 315 horsepower and 325 pounds-feet of torque. We`ll also have a V6, 4.0-liter Engine with "just" 210 horsepower and 240 pounds-feet of torque.
Each engine is mated to five-speed manual or automatic transmission. Both engines will allow the customers to personalize their cars in any way they want. The red line of the V8 will be around 6500 RPMs, with 250 RPMs more than the previous model and they want to make sure that the customers will fully feel this changes. Both engines have a new larger exhaust tips, growing with 1/2 inch from the previous model.
The engines will run with regular fuel but as well as premium fuel. It`s the job if the system to figure out what type of fuel the driver used, and to adapt the engine to run smoothly. The powertrain feel will be also enhanced by intake and exhaust sound tuning that will deliver the Mustang`s new signature sound.
They said a lot of things about engine, powergear, torque, but they didn`t said 1 word about stability, brakes, suspension. We hope to see independent wheel
suspension, maybe even multi-link suspension since the car has 4 wheels and i`d like that each one of them moves independently. As for the breaks, ventilated
brakes on all 4 wells would be nice and will help to stop this monster from time to time; at least when we`ll need to stop for some fuel.
Look, Interior
“Adding small features such as steering wheel-mounted audio controls and big technology breakthrough including SYNC and SIRIUS Travel Link make the Mustang driving experience even more engaging.” said Paul Randle and we`re willingly to trust him, for now.
The new pony will have a brand new Center Console. lockable stowage in the center floor console, covered cup holders, steering mounted audio controls, dual electronic climate control, outside temperature sensing and remote keyless entry integrated into the key. Although this all new features are more than welcome, i can`t stop noticing that this new interior still is quite ugly.
New technology
New Technology features available on the 2010 Mustang include:
SYNC: The voice-activated hands-free in-car communication and entertainment system developed by Ford and Microsoft. The system fully integrates most Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and digital media players, providing customers hands-free cell phone and music selection capabilities – plus new 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report provided with no monthly fees.
911 Assist: When a phone is properly paired, turned on and connected to SYNC, the system is ready to assist in placing a call directly to a local 911 emergency operator in the event of an air bag-deploying accident. The key advantage of SYNC 911 Assist is speed, as calls are placed directly to local 911 operators.
Vehicle Health Report (VHR): SYNC gathers relevant information from the major vehicle control modules and packages diagnostic data into a usable format in a matter of minutes. That data packet is sent to Ford via an 800-number automatically dialed using the customer’s paired and operable mobile phone.
SIRIUS Travel Link™, an industry-leading technology that, when combined with the voice-activated navigation system will provide users with real-time traffic data with accident and incident information, coast-to-coast weather data including current conditions and five-day forecasts, and fuel price information for over 120,000 gas stations. Travel Link also offers sports scores and schedules and a listing of more than 4,500 movie theaters with movie times, theater addresses, movie synopses and more.
Voice-Activated Navigation, which integrates several functions including voice recognition destination entry, climate control and SIRIUS satellite radio into one easy-to-use system, displaying them on an 8-inch touch-screen display. The navigation system’s text-to-speech function calls out street names while in route to a destination and reads incoming text messages when the system is linked to SYNC. The integrated DVD player is capable of reading CD-Audio, MP3 CDs, DVD, DVD-Audio and DVD-ROM (for digital map updates). A music jukebox function stores more than 150 hours of music. The screen even can be customized with personal photos.
Reverse Camera System, which mounts a small camera on the decklid spoiler that is activated when the Mustang is shifted into reverse, providing a clear view behind the vehicle.
The video image is displayed in the navigation screen on Mustangs equipped with that option or in the self-dimming rearview mirror on those without the navigation system. The screen image includes an industry-first centerline and colored guides giving the driver a better perspective of the vehicle’s center point and periphery. The rearview camera system will be available on the GT Premium, V-6 Pony Express and V-6 Sport packages.
Ambient Lighting System with MyColor™ allows drivers to customize the interior lighting of the vehicle to suit their mood. The enhanced MyColor system features seven base colors – ice blue, purple, blue, orange, red, white and green. Customers also can create 125 custom colors by mixing the red-green-blue palette. The driver can individually set the instrument cluster gauge background, instrument cluster “halo” lighting and the ambient lights in the front and rear footwells, cup holders, doors and the “M U S T A N G” logo in the aluminum door sills to different colors, or easily coordinate them all to the same custom color.
